Item Description:
Excellent condition Japanese flute Kotake Prima, sterling silver head.
Step-up intermediate
Kotake flutes were mainly made to local Japan market and very rarely appearing outside of Japan. Mr. Kotake used to work for Yamaha flute company (previously Nikkan) and around Sankyo founded in 1968 he start his own manufactory. There was a sort of collaboration between Sankyo and Kotake. The headjoint of this flute is silver, the body, the foot and the key mechanism are made of German-silver. Its headjoint is really nice, gives a flexible and responsive blow with a lovely warm sound throughout the registers. Very light and responsive keys plays smoothly and has very relaxed tone. Excellent scale. Its pitch is 442. In my opinion Kotake flutes are equal to Sankyo student level flutes, sometimes even better. It is a pity Mr. Kotake closed his manufacture in late 1990s and nobody took over the company.
